What are the Production Industry Standards regarding Payment Terms?
Every Brisbane or Gold Coast video production company may have different payment terms. It is important you have a solid understanding what the requirements from your chosen video production company may be. Alarm bells should ring if you are asked to pay for the entire production up front or something seems a bit off with what they are requesting. Ask them about their terms and if you don’t get a satisfactory answer, it’s often best to walk. If you don’t do this, you run the risk of being ripped off.
While it is legal for any business to have any payment terms they deem fit, here at Caldwell Entertainment, we follow the usual industry standard for projects $10,000 and under of a 50/50 split. 50% of the project fee is paid upfront as a deposit, the final 50% is paid upon completion of the video production. The deposit allows us, and anyone else who employs this common industry system, to lock away a date (and therefore other potential work) and take time to start planning out your shoot including paying for studio hire, costumes, etc. In short, it guarantees your project will happen.
